Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains

Cades Cove is one of the most visited locations in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park thanks to its spectacular mountain views and abundant display of wildlife. An eleven-mile loop encircles the valley, making it one of the most scenic routes within this park. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities for visitors staying in nearby Gatlinburg cabin rentals to enjoy hiking, biking, and photography.

The area was once a hunting ground for Cherokee Indians, but tribes did not settle here. European Settlers first inhabited Cades Cove in the early 19th century. During this time, a small village sprang up in these Tennessee Mountains, and many of the original buildings can still be seen today. During a trip to Cades Cove, visitors can take in several log cabins, three churches, and a working gristmill. Barns and other farm structures from the early 1800s also dot the landscape here. A visitor's area provides more information about the historic buildings, foot trails, and campsites that are available.

Many travelers like to stay in one of the many Gatlinburg chalets when planning a trip to Cades Cove. This quaint Tennessee town is only a short drive away and offers plenty of overnight accommodations and restaurants. Spring visitors can delight in the freshness of blooming dogwoods during a scenic drive in the cove.
