  • Comfortable shoes
  • Layers of clothing (pack a light jacket, even in the summer, just in case)
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses (no matter the time of year)
  • Lots of water
  • Map of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
  • Compass
  • Umbrella or ponchos if rain is in the forecast
  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Matches, just in case you need to start a fire
  • Small first aid kit with basic essentials
  • Extra socks, in case it rains or you step in a puddle near a waterfall or stream
